About VDNS

VDNS (Vortex method Direct Numerical Simulation) is a 3D Boussinesq/anelastic Navier-Stokes equation solver in vorticity-velocity formulation. The real extremely turbulent atmosphere and ocean could only be coarsely modelled at present. However, we may speculate the extreme situation by looking over some less turbulent regimes with find-grid direct numerical simulation (DNS). The model features its emphasis on vortex dynamics, with a novel fast Poisson solver to retrieve velocity from vorticity, a finite volume WENO advection scheme, and a high parallel computation efficiency.
